In a key offseason move, former Alabama guard Rylan Griffen has agreed to transfer to the University of Kentucky, giving new head coach Mark Pope a major boost as he reshapes the Wildcats’ roster. Griffen, a 6-foot-5 wing with two years of SEC experience, is expected to bring scoring, shooting, and veteran leadership to Lexington.

Griffen played a pivotal role at Alabama, averaging 11.2 points and 3.4 rebounds while shooting over 38% from beyond the arc during the 2024–25 season. His consistent perimeter shooting, defensive versatility, and big-game experience made him one of the most sought-after players in the transfer portal. He was instrumental in Alabama’s run to the Final Four this past season, showcasing his ability to perform under pressure.

Mark Pope, who took over the Kentucky program after John Calipari’s departure, is prioritizing shooters and high-IQ players who can excel in his modern offensive system. Griffen’s skill set aligns perfectly with Pope’s vision, and his decision to join the Wildcats is a strong endorsement of the direction the program is heading.

“I’ve decided to transfer to Kentucky because I believe in Coach Pope’s system and the opportunity to grow my game in a competitive environment,” Griffen said in a statement.

With Griffen’s commitment, Kentucky adds a proven SEC talent to its backcourt, signaling that Pope is ready to compete at a high level in his debut season at the helm of one of college basketball’s most storied programs.
