Iron Maiden’s longtime drummer, Nicko McBrain, has addressed the possibility of retiring from touring, revealing how his bandmates responded to the idea. In a recent interview, McBrain, who has been with the legendary heavy metal band since 1982, admitted that stepping away from the road is something he has been considering due to health concerns and the physical demands of performing.

McBrain suffered a minor stroke in 2023, which temporarily affected his drumming ability. While he made a strong recovery, the experience made him reflect on his future with the band. He acknowledged that playing Iron Maiden’s high-energy shows night after night is increasingly challenging.

Regarding his bandmates’ reaction, McBrain stated that they have been supportive and understanding. “The guys have been incredible. They told me to take things at my own pace,” he shared. However, he reassured fans that he remains committed to the band for now and will continue playing as long as he feels capable.

Iron Maiden is currently on their “The Future Past” tour, and McBrain continues to be part of the lineup. While he has not set a definitive retirement date, his openness about the subject suggests that a decision may come in the near future. Fans will undoubtedly cherish every performance as the drummer weighs his next steps.
