Heavy metal legend Tony Iommi is officially returning with new solo material. The Black Sabbath guitarist has announced that his long-awaited solo album, Definitely, Definitely, is set for release in 2026, marking his first full solo studio effort in more than two decades.

The announcement came as part of Iommi’s New Year message to fans, where the guitar icon spoke candidly about both the creative process behind the album and the emotional weight of the past year. According to Iommi, working on the record has been an enjoyable experience, and he’s confident listeners will appreciate what he’s been building in the studio.

Definitely, Definitely will be only the third solo album of Iommi’s career, following Iommi (2000) and Fused (2005). While he has remained musically active through collaborations and special projects, a full solo release from Iommi has been a rare event  making this announcement especially significant for fans of classic metal and guitar-driven rock.

The past year was a defining one for Iommi. It saw the final live performance involving Black Sabbath, as well as the passing of longtime bandmate and close friend Ozzy Osbourne. These moments brought both celebration and grief, shaping a reflective period in Iommi’s life that appears to have influenced his current creative direction.

Despite the emotional challenges, Iommi stayed busy musically. One of the year’s most talked-about moments was his surprise appearance on Robbie Williams’ song “Rocket,” where his unmistakable guitar tone added a heavy edge to the track. The collaboration introduced Iommi’s sound to a broader audience while reminding longtime fans why his riffs remain so influential.

Details about Definitely, Definitely are still being kept under wraps, but there are hints of notable collaborations. Black Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler has suggested that Iommi has been working with a prominent Swedish vocalist, although final contributions may depend on availability. With mixing reportedly already in progress, the album appears to be firmly on course for its 2026 release window.

Outside of music, Iommi also has a documentary in development with Gibson, focusing on his legendary career and impact on the evolution of heavy metal. He has also continued his charitable efforts, thanking fans for supporting a recent auction that raised significant funds for cancer treatment  a cause deeply personal to him.

Reaction from the metal community has been overwhelmingly positive. Fans across social platforms are celebrating the news, eager to hear fresh material from one of the genre’s true architects.

As 2026 approaches, Definitely, Definitely is shaping up to be more than just a new album  it’s another powerful chapter in the career of a guitarist whose influence shows no signs of fading.
