Lewis Hamilton has spoken out against Formula 1 fans who have criticized his performances since joining Ferrari, saying that unrealistic expectations and constant comparisons have created unnecessary negativity around his debut season with the Italian team.
The seven-time world champion, who left Mercedes at the end of the 2024 season to begin a new chapter with Ferrari, has faced mixed results so far in 2025. While he has shown moments of promise, Hamilton has yet to achieve a race win with the team, leading some fans to question whether the move was the right decision.
Speaking after the Mexican Grand Prix, Hamilton addressed the criticism head-on. “People sometimes forget how complex Formula 1 really is,” he said. “When you move to a new team, you’re adapting to new engineers, a different car philosophy, and a completely different way of working. It doesn’t all come together overnight.”
Hamilton also expressed frustration over how quickly opinions spread on social media. “Nowadays, everything gets amplified online,” he explained. “If you have one difficult weekend, suddenly people say you’ve lost it. That kind of reaction doesn’t help the team or the sport. What matters is staying focused and improving step by step.”
Many fans expected Hamilton’s arrival at Ferrari to immediately lift the team back into championship contention. However, Ferrari has struggled to match the pace of Red Bull and McLaren, with teammate Charles Leclerc often finishing ahead. Despite this, Hamilton remains confident that the partnership will grow stronger with time.
Ferrari team principal Frédéric Vasseur has publicly defended Hamilton’s contribution, praising his professionalism and technical insight. “Lewis has brought incredible experience and leadership to the team,” Vasseur said. “He’s been working closely with our engineers to help us improve. It’s a long-term project, and we fully support him.”
Former Formula 1 driver Jenson Button also shared his view on the situation, reminding fans that adaptation takes time even for the best drivers. “People have short memories,” Button noted. “When Michael Schumacher joined Ferrari, it took years before the team became dominant.
