Done Deal: Baltimore Orioles Veteran Reliever Agree to Deal Ahead of …..

Right-handed pitcher Dylan Coleman has secured a new opportunity with the Baltimore Orioles, announcing his deal via Instagram.

After being released by the Houston Astros in August, Coleman had been searching for a new team. While he has MLB experience, his performance has declined over time. Control issues have been a major concern, as he posted a 19.8% walk rate in the majors and 21.8% in the minors during his last season with the Kansas City Royals in 2023. His brief time with Houston in 2024 didn’t show much improvement.

Coleman made just one major league appearance for the Astros last season, pitching a single inning in a winning effort before being sent down to Triple-A. In the minors, his walk rate climbed to a concerning 23.9% over 36 innings.

Now, with a fresh start in Baltimore, Coleman will aim to refine his command and contribute to the Orioles’ bullpen. His effectiveness will largely depend on improving his control, particularly his walk rate. A strong spring training performance could help him earn a role on the team.

The Orioles’ bullpen is already solid, with Félix Bautista returning from Tommy John surgery after missing all of 2024. As the 2023 Mariano Rivera Reliever of the Year, Bautista is expected to be a dependable closer. The relief corps also features key holdovers like Yennier Cano, Seranthony Domínguez, Cionel Pérez, Keegan Akin, and Gregory Soto. Additionally, Baltimore acquired Andrew Kittredge to handle high-pressure situations.

The Orioles’ pitchers and catchers are set to report to spring training in Sarasota, Florida, on Thursday, with the full squad arriving by February 18.
