Dick Jauron, the former head coach of the Chicago Bears and Buffalo Bills, has passed away at the age of 74. His death was confirmed by sources close to his family, though no cause has been immediately disclosed.

 

Jauron had a long and respected career in the NFL, both as a player and a coach. Before stepping into coaching, he played as a defensive back for the Detroit Lions and Cincinnati Bengals from 1973 to 1980. His coaching career began soon after, leading to his head coaching role with the Bears from 1999 to 2003. He was named the AP NFL Coach of the Year in 2001 after leading Chicago to a surprising 13-3 season.

 

Following his tenure with the Bears, Jauron served as the interim head coach for the Detroit Lions in 2005 before taking over as the Buffalo Bills’ head coach from 2006 to 2009. He later worked as the defensive coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles before retiring from coaching.

 

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Jauron was known for his calm demeanor and strong leadership. His impact on the teams he coached and the players he mentored will not be forgotten.
