Three Teams Cleared by FIA Following Late Inspection at Canadian Grand Prix

June 27, 2025 – Montreal – The FIA has issued a ruling regarding late post-race inspections following the Canadian Grand Prix, concluding that all targeted teams complied with technical regulations. The decision has quelled concerns of potential violations after three teams were selected for in-depth scrutiny.

A statement released by the FIA confirmed that cars driven by George Russell (Mercedes), Oscar Piastri (McLaren), and Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) underwent “extensive checks” following the race in Montreal. Inspections covered critical areas including low-pressure fuel systems, compliance with TR Articles 5.11 and 6, electronic components, sensor homologation, and connectivity with the SECU   .

The governing body determined that “all inspected components were found to be in conformance with the 2025 Formula 1 Technical Regulations”  . This outcome means none of the three teams will face penalties, despite being pulled into the inspection process later than usual due to their top-10 finishes.

The inspections were triggered by routine FIA protocols targeting the top performers after each GP, ensuring no hidden breaches occur under competitive pressure. Russell, who emerged victorious in Canada, Piastri—who leads the drivers’ championship—and Leclerc—Ferrari’s leading contender—were all subject to the checks  .

With the FIA’s decision now public, all three drivers will continue in this weekend’s Austrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring without any sanctions. Piastri’s 22-point advantage over teammate Lando Norris remains untouched, while Russell’s win in Montreal continues to strengthen his title bid. Leclerc, still seeking his first win of 2025, also remains behind the wheel with no impediments  .

The FIA’s ruling reaffirms the robustness of technical regulations and inspection protocols, preserving the integrity of the sport just as teams shift focus to the high-speed challenges ahead in Europe.
