LEXINGTON, KY — In a major boost to the Kentucky Wildcats’ championship hopes, standout guard Otega Oweh has announced his decision to return to Lexington for his senior season, withdrawing his name from the 2025 NBA Draft.
The announcement, made on May 28, was met with excitement from fans and the coaching staff alike. Head coach Mark Pope shared that he became emotional upon hearing the news, describing it as a pivotal moment for the program.
Oweh, who transferred to Kentucky from Oklahoma ahead of the 2024–25 season, had an immediate impact in his junior year. He averaged 16.2 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game, earning Second-Team All-SEC honors and becoming one of the team’s most reliable two-way players.
“I found a family in Kentucky,” Oweh said in a video shared to social media. “Let’s run it back.”
Oweh’s return is expected to solidify Kentucky as a top contender in the Southeastern Conference and on the national stage. With a strong supporting cast that includes returners and high-profile transfers like Brandon Garrison, Collin Chandler, and Trent Noah, the Wildcats are now widely considered a Final Four-caliber team.
Oweh also addressed the growing influence of Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) opportunities, saying it has helped players stay financially stable and has not affected locker room unity. His NIL valuation was estimated to be over \$385,000.
For Kentucky, retaining a proven leader like Oweh not only strengthens the roster but also brings veteran experience and stability to a team with championship aspirations.
With the 2025–26 season on the horizon, Big Blue Nation will look to Oweh to lead the charge toward a potential ninth national title.
