Braydon Hawthorne, a talented 6-foot-8 wing from Beckley, West Virginia, has officially pledged to join the University of Kentucky men’s basketball team for the 2025–26 season. Ranked 33rd nationally by 247Sports, Hawthorne’s commitment strengthens Coach Mark Pope’s already impressive recruiting class, now ranked 11th in the country.

Hawthorne initially committed to West Virginia but reopened his recruitment after a coaching change. After considering programs like Duke, Pittsburgh, and Virginia Tech, he ultimately chose Kentucky—a lifelong dream. He cited strong connections with Coach Pope and his staff as key reasons behind his decision.

Hawthorne had a standout senior season at Huntington Expression Prep, averaging 23.5 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists per game. He earned MVP honors at the Dr. Pepper Classic and was featured in elite events like the Wootten Top 150.

Coach Pope commended Hawthorne for his rapid development and hard work, noting his strong academics and competitive drive. “Braydon probably has the steepest growth curve of anyone in the 2025 class,” said Pope.

With Hawthorne joining four-star guard Jasper Johnson and center Malachi Moreno, Kentucky’s 2025 class is shaping up to be a powerhouse. His arrival brings the Wildcats’ roster to 14 players, making them strong contenders in the upcoming NCAA season.

Hawthorne’s commitment is being celebrated as a major win for Kentucky basketball, and fans are eager to see his impact on the court.
