In a move that surprised some but thrilled Kentucky Wildcats fans, senior guard Otega Oweh has officially withdrawn his name from the 2025 NBA Draft and announced he will return to Kentucky for his final collegiate season.
Oweh, who averaged 14.8 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game last season, was considered a potential second-round pick in this year’s draft. However, after testing the waters and receiving feedback from NBA teams, the 6-foot-5 guard decided that another year in Lexington would better position him for the professional level.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to go through the draft process and learn what I need to improve,” Oweh said in a statement released by the university. “But after a lot of thought and conversations with my family and coaches, I’ve decided it’s best for me to come back, keep developing, and help Kentucky chase a championship next season.”
Head coach Mark Pope praised Oweh’s decision, noting that his leadership and experience will be critical for a Wildcats team aiming for a deep NCAA tournament run. “Otega has grown tremendously over the past few years, and we’re excited to have him back,” Calipari said. “His work ethic and toughness set the tone for this team.”
Oweh’s return bolsters a Kentucky roster that is already loaded with young talent, including a highly ranked incoming freshman class. With Oweh anchoring the backcourt, the Wildcats are expected to open next season as one of the top-ranked teams in the nation.
For Oweh, the decision reflects a long-term view of his career. “I know I still have room to grow,” he said. “I want to make sure when I get to the NBA, I’m ready to make an impact from day one.”
Kentucky fans, no doubt, are eager to see what Oweh’s senior year will bring.
