Deal Cancelled: Devin Askew Cancels Return to Kentucky, Shocks Co…read more.

In a surprising twist, former Kentucky Wildcats guard Devin Askew has reportedly backed out of his anticipated return to the program for the 2025–26 season. Askew, who originally played for Kentucky in the 2020–21 season before transferring to Texas, California, and most recently Long Beach State, had made headlines with plans to rejoin the Wildcats—but has now decided to go in a different direction.

Askew had just come off a strong season at Long Beach State, averaging 18.9 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game. His return to Kentucky was expected to bring veteran leadership and added firepower to the backcourt. However, sources now confirm that the deal has been called off, leaving fans and analysts speculating about his next move.

The decision comes as Coach Mark Pope continues to rebuild the Kentucky roster with a mix of seasoned transfers and promising recruits. Recent additions like Florida’s Denzel Aberdeen and Pittsburgh’s Jaland Lowe still provide hope for a strong upcoming season, but Askew’s sudden change of heart is a notable loss.

While no official reason has been given for the cancellation, Askew’s journey through multiple programs suggests he’s still weighing the best path forward for his career. Kentucky fans, who were energized by his potential comeback, are left disappointed but hopeful that the current roster can still deliver results.

For now, Askew’s next step remains uncertain, and the Wildcats will move forward without the experienced guard in their lineup.
