During a Bleacher Report livestream of the NFL Draft hosted by Micah Parsons, Darius Slay—fresh off his stint with the Eagles—expressed excitement when the Steelers selected Harmon. Slay, a six-time Pro Bowler, was enthusiastic about teaming up with a player of Harmon’s caliber and believes Harmon could give veteran Cam Heyward some much-needed relief. Slay noted that when his Eagles faced Pittsburgh last season, Heyward’s presence—or lack thereof—was a key factor in the game plan. He added that Heyward will be a great mentor for Harmon.
Harmon is expected to play as a base end, taking over for Larry Ogunjobi opposite Heyward. Keeanu Benton will likely serve as the nose tackle in base formations but shift to a pass-rushing three-technique in sub-packages. The Steelers also added Montravius Adams and Daniel Ekuale to bolster the defensive line rotation. They’ll be looking for additional depth from players like DeMarvin Leal, Logan Lee, Dean Lowry, or another standout during training camp.
