Ex McDonald’s All-American Mackenzie Mgbako Officially Announces Commitment to Kentucky After…read more.

Former McDonald’s All-American Mackenzie Mgbako has officially announced his commitment to the University of Kentucky, adding a major boost to the Wildcats’ already talented roster.

Mgbako, a highly-touted 6-foot-8 forward known for his scoring versatility and rebounding ability, made the announcement via social media on Monday. The decision ends weeks of speculation surrounding his future after he reopened his recruitment earlier this year. He chose Kentucky over several top programs, including Louisville, Indiana, and Memphis.

“I’m excited to announce that I will be continuing my basketball journey at the University of Kentucky,” Mgbako said in a statement. “Coach [John] Calipari’s vision for me and the program really stood out. I believe this is the best place for me to grow as a player and a person.”

Mgbako was previously committed to Indiana but decommitted after a coaching change and began exploring other options. With his commitment, Kentucky secures one of the top available prospects in the country. He brings a strong offensive skill set, capable of stretching the floor with his shooting while also being an effective slasher and defender.

Kentucky head coach John Calipari praised Mgbako’s potential and work ethic. “Mackenzie is the kind of player who makes everyone around him better. He’s a competitor, and he’s ready to embrace the challenge of playing at Kentucky.”

Mgbako is expected to make an immediate impact for the Wildcats in the upcoming season as they aim for a deep NCAA tournament run.
