Lewis Hamilton has responded to growing criticism from Formula 1 fans regarding his recent performances with Ferrari, saying that unrealistic expectations and quick judgments have made his first season with the team more challenging than it needs to be.
The seven-time world champion, who joined Ferrari at the start of the 2025 season after his long career with Mercedes, has endured a mixed run so far. Although he has shown flashes of competitiveness, Hamilton has yet to secure a win, sparking debate among fans and commentators about his switch to the iconic Italian team.
Speaking after the Mexican Grand Prix, Hamilton shared his thoughts on the criticism. “Some people don’t realize how difficult it is to adapt when you move to a new team,” he said. “There are new engineers, new systems, and a completely different car philosophy. It takes time to build that connection and confidence.”
Hamilton also touched on the impact of social media, suggesting that online reactions often make the situation worse. “Everything spreads so fast now,” he said. “You have one tough weekend and suddenly people say you’ve lost your touch. That kind of negativity doesn’t reflect the hard work going on behind the scenes.”
Many fans expected Hamilton’s arrival to bring Ferrari back to title contention immediately. However, the team continues to face strong competition from Red Bull and McLaren, while Charles Leclerc has often finished ahead in key races. Despite this, Hamilton remains optimistic that the partnership will pay off in the long term.
Ferrari team principal Frédéric Vasseur defended Hamilton, saying that the British driver’s influence has already been positive. “Lewis has brought tremendous experience and leadership,” Vasseur said. “He’s helping us understand areas where we can improve. This is not an overnight project — we are building for the future.”
Former F1 champion Jenson Button also came to Hamilton’s defense, reminding fans that patience is part of the process. “It took years for Michael Schumacher to win with Ferrari after joining them,” Button explained. “Lewis hasn’t forgotten how to drive — he’s just adjusting to a new environment.”
Despite the criticism, Hamilton says he is fully committed to helping Ferrari return to the top. “I didn’t join Ferrari expecting instant results,” he said. “I came because I believe in this team and its potential. Challenges like this are what push you to grow stronger.”
