NEWCASTLE NEWS: I don’t care!’ – Hugo Ekitike feeling no pressure over £79m Liverpool price tag as in-form striker explains why he snubbed Newcastle transfer

Liverpool’s newest attacking sensation, Hugo Ekitike, insists he feels “no pressure” over his £79 million transfer fee, brushing off any suggestion that the weight of expectation could impact his form. The French striker, who arrived at Anfield this summer, has hit the ground running and quickly become a fan favorite thanks to his clinical finishing and fearless style of play.

Speaking in a recent interview, the 22-year-old dismissed concerns over his record-breaking price tag, saying bluntly: “I don’t care. The fee is between the clubs, not me. I just focus on my football, my teammates, and helping Liverpool win games.”

Ekitike also shed light on his decision to turn down a move to Newcastle United last year, despite the Magpies making a serious push for his signature. While many expected him to be part of Newcastle’s ambitious rebuild, the striker admitted that the timing and fit didn’t feel right. “Newcastle is a great club, but for me, it was about the right project and the right moment. Liverpool felt perfect—historic, ambitious, and with a manager who knows how to get the best from young players.”

Since joining Jürgen Klopp’s squad, Ekitike has already scored several crucial goals, proving his ability to adapt quickly to Premier League football. His confidence on the pitch has impressed supporters, while his calm off-field demeanor suggests he is unfazed by the spotlight.

Liverpool fans, who have long sought a consistent goal-scorer to complement their attack, are already buzzing about Ekitike’s potential. If his early performances are any indication, the hefty price tag may soon be viewed as a bargain.

For Ekitike, however, it’s simple: “I’m here to play football, not to think about money. That’s all that matters.”
