BREAKING: Iron Maiden DRUMMER Nicko McBrain C…read more.

As the world reels from the loss of legendary heavy metal icon Ozzy Osbourne, one of his longtime admirers and fellow musicians, Nicko McBrain of Iron Maiden, has shared a moving statement reflecting on the singer’s extraordinary impact both personally and across generations of fans.

“Ozzy was truly one of a kind,” McBrain said. “He didn’t just make music  he changed music. And for so many of us, he changed our lives.”

A Sound That Shaped a Genre

McBrain recalled the profound influence Black Sabbath had on him when he was just beginning his career as a drummer. Hearing Ozzy’s voice for the first time, he said, was like hearing metal being born.

“That first Sabbath record blew me away,” he remembered. “Ozzy’s vocals had this eerie, powerful presence. It was like nothing else I’d ever heard. That album opened a door for all of us in the rock and metal world.”

McBrain acknowledged that without Ozzy’s fearless approach and unique energy, bands like Iron Maiden may never have found the same path forward.

“He made it okay to be dark, to be different, to be loud. We all owe him a debt we can never repay.”

The Man Behind the Legend

Though known to the world as the “Prince of Darkness,” McBrain shared that behind the wild reputation was a genuinely warm and down-to-earth man.

“Ozzy was always kind to me  always had time for a chat, a laugh,” he said. “He was funny, real, and completely unfiltered. What you saw was what you got.”

Whether crossing paths on tour or at festivals, McBrain said Ozzy was always the same humble, generous, and full of life.

“There was no ego with Ozzy. He never acted like he was bigger than anyone, even though he was a giant.”

A Final, Unforgettable Show

Just a few weeks before his passing, Ozzy Osbourne made a surprise final appearance with Black Sabbath in Birmingham. McBrain, who attended the show, called the performance unforgettable and deeply emotional.

“He gave everything he had left that night,” he recalled. “You could feel it  that deep connection with the audience, that need to give one last gift to his fans.”

The farewell performance now feels like a final blessing  a closing chapter to an unmatched career.

“It was a goodbye, even if we didn’t fully realize it at the time,” McBrain said. “He went out like a true showman.”

An Enduring Legacy

Though heartbroken, McBrain expressed hope that Ozzy’s spirit will continue to inspire.

“He’ll never be gone  not really,” he said. “Every time someone picks up a guitar or belts out a heavy riff, Ozzy’s influence is there.”

He described Osbourne’s legacy as more than just his music  it’s a mindset, a spirit of originality and courage.

“Ozzy never conformed. He followed his own path, no matter what. And that’s why people loved him  because he was real.”

A Personal Goodbye

McBrain ended his tribute with a deeply personal message, one that captures the pain of loss and the gratitude of a fellow musician who grew up in Ozzy’s shadow.

“Ozzy, mate  thank you for your music, your heart, and your spirit. You changed the world and made it more exciting for the rest of us. You’ll always be a part of us  every drumbeat, every crowd roar, every power chord. Rest peacefully, brother.”

As the heavy metal community mourns, voices like Nicko McBrain’s remind us that Ozzy Osbourne was more than a rock star  he was a cultural force, a musical pioneer, and a cherished friend to those lucky enough to know him. His voice may be quiet now, but his influence will echo on stages and in hearts for decades to come.
