Bill Ward Says He’s Open to New Black Sabbath Music After Farewell Show

Founding Black Sabbath drummer Bill Ward has stunned fans by hinting that the band may not be entirely done with new music—even after their upcoming farewell concert. Speaking recently on Long Beach’s 99.1 KLBP-FM, Ward revealed he’s been “living in the studio” and has two solo albums nearly finished  . But in a twist, the veteran drummer admitted he’s open to the idea of Black Sabbath recording together again down the line.

“I’ve just let everything go. I don’t give an ‘F’… I wanted to play something that plays in my heart and comes out of my soul,” Ward said of his solo efforts  . Yet he didn’t rule out regrouping with Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, and Geezer Butler in the future, potentially for studio work—even after their final performance together on July 5 at Villa Park in Birmingham.

The event, billed as “Back to the Beginning,” marks the quartet’s first onstage reunion since 2005 and will serve as both farewell and charitable fundraiser. With proceeds benefiting Cure Parkinson’s, Birmingham Children’s Hospital, and Acorns, the gathering is designed as a passion‑project closure  . Despite its one-off nature, Ward’s recent comments hint at what could be a broader legacy: not just a final curtain, but perhaps a new chapter in their storied collaboration.

Tony Iommi, meanwhile, has publicly stated that the Birmingham concert will serve as Sabbath’s “actual end,” emphasizing that with Ozzy’s health challenges and their advanced age, a full reunion tour isn’t possible  . However, he didn’t dismiss the possibility of studio work under the right circumstances.

For Ward, who last released solo material in 2015, the prospect of returning to the creative forge with his original bandmates seems heartfelt—and hopeful. Though heavy metal history may mark July 5 as Sabbath’s grand finale, Ward has opened the door to new music in the future.
