It was a night heavy with nostalgia, thunderous riffs, and a raw emotional current that swept through the crowd at Birmingham’s Utilita Arena. Titled Back to the Beginning, the event marked a powerful return for Ozzy Osbourne, the legendary frontman of Black Sabbath. But as the amps roared and the crowd chanted every word, the evening evolved into more than just a celebration of Osbourne  it became a heartfelt tribute to guitarist Tony Iommi and his towering legacy in rock music.

One of the night’s most unforgettable moments came during the performance of “War Pigs.” As Iommi unleashed the song’s iconic guitar solo, the audience responded with a deafening singalong. The sound of thousands of voices echoing his notes created an almost spiritual experience, leaving many including performers visibly moved.

“Hearing the crowd sing the ‘War Pigs’ solo gave me chills,” said one attendee. “You could feel the history in the air.”

Though billed as Ozzy’s night, Back to the Beginning made it clear that Black Sabbath’s roots run deeper than any single figure. Iommi, the architect of Sabbath’s dark, pioneering sound, was front and center, his guitar work as fierce and precise as ever. From the thunderous chug of “Iron Man” to the sludgy intensity of “Children of the Grave,” his playing served as a living testament to his unmatched influence on heavy metal and guitar-driven music.

Osbourne, despite ongoing health challenges, delivered a performance that proved his spirit remains unbroken. His vocals—at times fragile, at times forceful—brought authenticity and rawness that only added to the power of the night. Backed by longtime collaborators and joined briefly by surprise guest Geezer Butler, the performance offered a moment of unity for fans of all ages.

Beyond the music, the night carried a sense of closure and reverence. It honored the band’s shared roots in Birmingham, the city where Black Sabbath first emerged more than five decades ago. For many fans, it was not just a concert it was a farewell, a thank-you, and a passing of the torch.

As the final notes rang out and the crowd roared in appreciation, it was clear: Back to the Beginning wasn’t just about looking back. It was a reminder of Black Sabbath’s eternal imprint on rock history—and Tony Iommi’s central role in forging it.
