Netflix has announced the release of two compelling documentary series centered on Penn State University, aiming to provide an in-depth look into its athletic legacy. The first series will delve into the rich history of the Penn State Nittany Lions football program, highlighting its iconic former coach, Joe Paterno. The documentary will explore the team’s rise to prominence, the leadership of Paterno, and the lasting impact of the Jerry Sandusky scandal that shook the university and the entire world of college athletics. Through interviews, archival footage, and expert commentary, viewers will gain a comprehensive understanding of both the triumphs and the controversies that have shaped the football program’s legacy.

In addition to the football-focused series, Netflix is also producing a documentary about Penn State’s wrestling team and its highly respected coach, Cael Sanderson. This series will chronicle Sanderson’s remarkable journey in transforming the wrestling program into a national powerhouse. With multiple NCAA championships and a legacy of producing elite athletes, the wrestling program stands as a testament to discipline, leadership, and competitive excellence.

Both documentaries are part of Netflix’s growing catalog of sports content aimed at exploring the deeper stories behind legendary college programs and figures. By examining the highs and lows, the victories and the scandals, Netflix intends to offer a balanced and thoughtful portrayal of Penn State’s impact on collegiate sports. The documentaries are expected to debut in June 2025, drawing widespread interest from sports fans, alumni, and documentary enthusiasts alike.
