F1 legend gives Piastri crucial guidance in battle against Norris for championship
As the Formula 1 season heats up, Australian driver Oscar Piastri has found himself in the midst of a high-stakes internal battle with McLaren teammate Lando Norris. With both drivers showing strong performances and Norris emerging as a title contender, F1 legend and former world champion Alain Prost has stepped in to offer Piastri some timely advice.
Speaking during an interview at the recent Grand Prix weekend, Prost acknowledged Piastri’s impressive development in just his second season in Formula 1. “Oscar is incredibly talented and calm under pressure,” said Prost. “But when you’re up against a teammate like Norris, who’s in peak form and chasing a world title, the mental game becomes just as important as speed.”
Prost advised Piastri to focus on consistency and to avoid getting drawn into emotional on-track battles that could cost valuable points. “The key in these situations is to be smart, not just fast. You don’t need to win every duel – you need to finish strong and collect points regularly,” he added.
Piastri, who claimed his first podium last season, has continued to impress with mature drives this year. However, with McLaren providing a competitive car, intra-team rivalry is beginning to take center stage. Norris has been McLaren’s front-runner in recent races, drawing attention as a possible challenger to reigning world champion Max Verstappen.
While team principal Andrea Stella has emphasized team harmony, managing the growing competitiveness between the two young stars may prove challenging as the season progresses. Piastri, known for his composed demeanor, said he appreciated Prost’s words. “It’s always an honor to hear advice from someone like Alain. I’ll take it on board and keep focusing on my own performance.”
With the championship still wide open and McLaren in a strong position, the battle between Norris and Piastri could define the team’s future. Whether the advice from an F1 great gives Piastri an edge remains to be seen, but one thing is certain – the McLaren garage will be a thrilling focal point in the races to come.
