Agot Makeer Withdraws Commitment to South Carolina after MO…read more.

In a surprising turn of events, five-star recruit Agot Makeer has decided to decommit from the University of South Carolina’s women’s basketball program. The 6-foot-1 wing, originally from Thunder Bay, Ontario, had recently completed her final high school season at Montverde Academy in Florida. Her initial commitment to South Carolina in early March was seen as a major win for the program, especially as she had considered other top schools like UConn and Michigan State.

Makeer’s decision to back out of her pledge comes as a disappointment to the Gamecocks, who had hoped to build their 2025 recruiting class around her talent. That class had been projected as one of the nation’s strongest. South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley had spoken highly of Makeer, describing her as an incredibly competitive player with immense potential and a high ceiling.

Although no official reason has been given for her change of heart, speculation suggests that Makeer is reevaluating her options amid growing interest from other elite programs. Her decommitment leaves a noticeable gap in South Carolina’s future roster plans and could shift the dynamics of the upcoming recruiting cycle.

Despite this setback, the Gamecocks remain confident in their ability to attract top-tier talent and maintain their status as a dominant force in women’s college basketball. As for Makeer, all eyes will be on where she chooses to take her next step in what’s expected to be a highly promising career.
