Former Formula 1 driver Jos Verstappen has entered the ongoing discussion regarding Red Bull’s future driver lineup, expressing a firm stance on reserve driver Liam Lawson’s potential. With Red Bull yet to finalize its full roster for 2026, speculation continues over who will partner Max Verstappen in the coming years.

Lawson, who made an impression with his substitute appearances for AlphaTauri (now Visa Cash App RB) last season, has been vying for a full-time seat. However, Red Bull’s hesitation to promote him has stirred debate among fans and analysts. Jos Verstappen, father of three-time world champion Max Verstappen, has now weighed in on the matter.

Speaking to the media, Verstappen Sr. highlighted Lawson’s talent and readiness for Formula 1. “Liam has demonstrated his ability to perform under pressure. He stepped in on short notice and delivered solid results. He deserves a real opportunity,” he stated.

Red Bull currently fields Max Verstappen and Sergio Pérez, while Daniel Ricciardo and Yuki Tsunoda race for RB. With Pérez’s contract nearing its end and Ricciardo facing pressure to perform, Lawson remains a strong candidate for a promotion.

As Red Bull assesses its options, Jos Verstappen’s endorsement of Lawson adds another layer of intrigue to the team’s decision-making process. Whether the young New Zealander finally secures a full-time seat remains to

be seen.
