Red Bull team principal Christian Horner has responded to growing questions about the performance of Liam Lawson, whose recent results have left fans and analysts questioning his place in the team. Lawson, currently driving for Red Bull’s sister team, AlphaTauri, has struggled to match the pace of his more experienced counterparts, prompting speculation about his long-term future in Formula 1.
Horner acknowledged the concerns but defended the young driver, highlighting the challenges of adapting to the high-pressure world of F1.
“Liam is still developing. Stepping into a Formula 1 car is no small task, and we have to give him time to grow and learn,” Horner said in a recent interview.
Lawson, who was promoted to the grid after an impressive run in lower racing categories, has yet to deliver consistent top-10 finishes. However, Horner emphasized that the team remains committed to supporting him. “We see potential in Liam, and we’re confident he can unlock more performance with experience and the right guidance,” he added.
Despite the criticism, Lawson has shown flashes of talent, particularly in challenging race conditions, though he has struggled with race strategy and qualifying speed.
Horner’s comments suggest that Red Bull is not ready to give up on Lawson just yet, though the pressure to improve will only increase as the season progresses. For now, the team appears focused on nurturing his development while keeping an eye on the competitive demands of Formula 1.
