Lando Norris has opened up about a terrifying brake issue he encountered during the Chinese Grand Prix, calling it his “worst nightmare.” The incident occurred midway through the race, leaving the McLaren driver struggling to control his car. As he approached a high-speed corner, Norris felt the brake pedal malfunction, a critical moment that could have led to disaster.
“I’ve never experienced anything quite like it,” Norris admitted after the race. “It’s your worst nightmare as a driver—braking is everything, especially at those speeds. When you suddenly lose that confidence, it’s terrifying.”
The problem forced Norris to adapt his driving style for the rest of the race, managing both his pace and safety. Despite the setback, he managed to complete the race, though he missed out on a top finish.
The McLaren team later confirmed that a mechanical fault had caused the issue, and they are now investigating the root cause to prevent similar problems in the future. Norris credited the team for their quick responses during the race but admitted the experience shook him.
“Moments like these remind you how dangerous motorsport can be,” he added. “You put your trust in the car, and when something goes wrong, it really puts things into perspective.”
The Chinese Grand Prix may not have gone as planned for Norris, but his ability to maintain control and finish the race under such conditions highlights his skill and composure behind the wheel.
