Iron Maiden drummer Nicko McBrain has spoken candidly about his future with the legendary heavy metal band, hinting that his touring days may be coming to an end. In a recent interview, McBrain addressed his health challenges and the physical demands of performing live, acknowledging that he may soon step away from extensive touring.

At 71 years old, McBrain has been a vital part of Iron Maiden since 1982, contributing to the band’s iconic sound across numerous albums and world tours. However, in 2023, he suffered a stroke that temporarily affected his drumming ability. Though he made an impressive recovery and returned to the stage, he admits that the experience changed his perspective on long-term touring.

Despite the potential shift in his role, McBrain reassured fans that he remains committed to Iron Maiden. “I love playing with the band, and as long as I can still do it at a high level, I will,” he said. He also expressed gratitude for the unwavering support from his bandmates and fans.

While McBrain has not officially announced his retirement from touring, his comments suggest that he is preparing for a transition. Whether this means reducing his live performances or stepping back entirely remains to be seen. In the meantime, Iron Maiden continues their global tour, with McBrain behind the kit, proving once again why they remain one of the most enduring acts in heavy metal.
