Seven-time Formula 1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton has opted to remain silent in response to recent remarks by Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko, who suggested that Max Verstappen would outperform him even in a “mediocre” Red Bull car. The statement, which has sparked widespread debate in the F1 community, highlights the enduring rivalry between the two drivers despite Hamilton’s recent switch to Ferrari.

Marko, known for his bold and often provocative opinions, made his comments during an interview, claiming Verstappen’s current dominance in Formula 1 is a testament to his unparalleled skill. “Even if [Lewis Hamilton] had a superior Ferrari and we gave Max a mediocre Red Bull, my money would still be on Max,” Marko said, emphasizing the Dutch driver’s ability to excel regardless of the circumstances.

While Marko’s statements have fueled discussions about the hypothetical head-to-head performance of the two drivers in different machinery, Hamilton has declined to respond. The British racing icon, who signed with Ferrari for the 2024 season and secured multiple podiums during the year, appears more focused on preparing for what could be a highly competitive 2025 campaign.

Sources close to Hamilton reveal that he is taking a characteristically measured approach to the remarks. “Lewis doesn’t waste time engaging in pointless debates. His priority right now is working with Ferrari to get the best possible start to the season,” one insider stated. “He believes in letting his performances on the track speak for themselves.”

Hamilton has a long-standing reputation for rising above criticism and keeping his focus firmly on the sport. Despite Verstappen’s recent dominance—securing his fourth consecutive title in 2024—Hamilton’s legacy remains intact as one of the greatest drivers in F1 history, with 103 race victories and numerous records to his name.

The rivalry between Hamilton and Verstappen has been one of the most talked-about storylines in modern Formula 1, particularly following their heated battle for the 2021 championship. While Verstappen’s Red Bull car has been the benchmark in recent years, Hamilton’s move to Ferrari represents an opportunity for a fresh start. Ferrari’s improving form during the latter part of 2024 has given fans hope that Hamilton may again challenge for the championship.

Critics of Marko’s comments have pointed out that Verstappen’s success has been heavily influenced by Red Bull’s technical superiority, particularly under the current regulations. Others argue that Hamilton’s consistency over his career, including his dominance during Mercedes’ turbo-hybrid era, demonstrates his ability to perform at the highest level in a range of conditions.

As Hamilton prepares for the new season, his focus remains unshaken. “Talk is cheap, but what happens on track matters,” Hamilton said in a previous interview when addressing similar commentary. His decision not to respond to Marko underlines his commitment to prioritizing his racing over off-track distractions.

With the 2025 season on the horizon, fans eagerly await the next chapter of the Hamilton-Verstappen rivalry. Whether Ferrari can provide Hamilton with the tools to challenge Red Bull remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: Lewis Hamilton is ready to let his performance do the talking.
